It never occurred to me that I would want to make a tribute album until I heard Connie Converse's songs. I felt an instantaneous connection, not wanting to just Listen to the songs but to actually Know them. Thankfully there are more than 5, so this EP is not the end.

From all apparent evidence Connie was many things. Brilliant and sharp witted, astute and uncompromising, sad and lovely. A true stand alone artist in an age where it was virtually unheard of, especially as a female. Her story is sad but her brilliance shines and often that seems to be just the way it goes. Her heart was really in her songs, you can hear it and feel it. These songs were written by her and owned by her or whoever owns her publishing. I don't claim any credit for anything other than the music.

One of the things that interested me most about doing this project is that all of the existing recording that I have heard are just her and the guitar. The possibilities for coloring in between the lines with instruments was impossible to resist. It was recorded in three days with Jordan Koop at The Noise Floor. I did the arrangements and play all the instruments (elec/acoustic guitar, bass, violin, cello, banjolele, a bit of organ). Jordan played drums and lead guitar on John Brady and Roving Woman.

Thanks to everyone who supported and encouraged this labor of love. Thank you Connie, wherever you are, for your gift, and for seeing it through to bring it into the world.
